Committees

Mission/Outreach Committee
The Mission Committee seeks to provide opportunities for the congregation of Bridgewater Presbyterian Church to make contributions of its time, talents, and money to be shared with others in our community and around the world who need physical and spiritual nourishment. The committee reaches out to members and others with the goal of increasing attendance and gaining new members.
Responsibilities: 
  • Denominational Special Offerings – e.g. One Great Hour, Joy Gift and World Communiont
  • Local Mission Efforts – e.g.  Souper Bowl, Backpacks, Food Pantry, Family Thanksgiving Meals, Open Doors, White Birch Service, Music Outreach to Retirement Communities
  • Shenandoah Presbytery Mission – e.g.  5¢-a-Meal
  • Worldwide Mission – e.g. Nicaragua mission
  • Campus Ministry - e.g. Goodie Giveaway, Meals
  • Little Free Library
  • Marketing/Brochures/Business Cards
  • Parade Float
  • Trunk-or-Treat
  • Visitor Cards
  • Oversee/Supervise “Social Media Steward​​
Building & Grounds
The Building and Grounds Committee seeks to preserve and maintain the physical structure and property of Bridgewater Presbyterian Church.
Responsibilities: 
  • Church Workdays
  • Building Maintenance – includes monitoring utilities expenses/service contracts; program and check thermostats; change time clocks for outside lighting
  • Lawn Care/Landscaping/Hardscaping – responsible for informing snow removal personnel of need
  • Custodial Needs -  coordinate and supervise church custodial/cleaning needs and order/receive supplies within framework of budget
  • Office Equipment/Supply- check copier and printer function regularly and contact/meet repair person when needed
  • Office Supplies - inventory office supplies monthly, receive requests from pastor, committee chairs, and supporting groups for supplies and order/receive supplies
  • Capital Improvement Planning
  • Facility Use - review and update facility use guidelines; administer church policy relating to facility use
  • Oversee/Supervise “Custodial Assistant”
  • Oversee/Supervise “Office Steward”
Christian Education Committee
The Christian Education Committee aims to guide, through education, the men, women and children of Bridgewater Presbyterian Church inthe journey to know Christ.

Responsibilities:  
  • Children’s Church School Teachers/Training/Support/Recognition/Program Evaluation
  • Children’s Curriculum
  • Adult Education/Classes
  • Seasonal Programs/Studies, i.e. Lent/Advent Studies
  • Devotional/Print Resources - with Spiritual Life Committee
  • Youth Group Programs/Activities - e.g., advent ornaments, yard sale
  • Promotion of Presbytery Education Events
  • Youth Mission Trips/Camps
  • Vacation Bible School – coordinating with local churches
  • Child Protection Forms - gather signatures from teachers and others who have contact with youth
Member Care Committee
The Member Care Committee strives to foster fellowship among Bridgewater Presbyterian Church members and supports those members throughout life’s changing needs.
Responsibilities:
  • Homebound Member Visits
  • Coordinate Shepherding Efforts 
  • Nursery & Nursery Volunteers 
  • Church Directory - update on an ongoing basis and provide to the congregation at least annually
  • Churchwide Communication - Spotlight and weekly email updates
  • Member Support - e.g. special receptions
  • Acknowledgement of New Babies
  • Baptism Gift - Children's Bible
  • Promote Member Fellowship – e.g. Men’s Breakfast, Women’s Dinner Out, Smileys, Fall Back & Spring Forward Breakfasts, Oasis Pizza Picnic, Easter Egg Hunt
  • Church Membership Rolls - Oversee annual review
  • Oversee/Supervise “Kitchen Steward”
  • Oversee/Supervise “Information Steward”
Spiritual Life Committee
The Spiritual Life Committee is committed to providing meaningful worship opportunities where, through music, scripture and examining God’s word, spiritual growth is fostered and a message of hope and grace is shared, focusing on our relationship with God and others.  
 Responsibilities:  
  • Ushers – secure, train and schedule
  • Acolytes/Bell Ringers - secure, train and schedule
  • Lay Leaders – secure, train and schedule
  • Bulletins & Liturgy 
  • Pulpit Supply 
  • Organist/Pianist Supply
  • Flowers for Worship Services
  • Seasonal Decorations 
  • Communion Schedule/Supplies - setup and breakdown
  • Homebound Communion
  • Music/Choir
  • Wildwood – setup and breakdown, including Breakfast before worship
  • Lent Season – Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunrise services
  • Advent Season – Christmas Eve service, special decoration of sanctuary
  • Community Services – Thanksgiving service, etc.
  • After Worship Receptions – e.g. reception for choir
  • Audio/Visual Management in Sanctuary 
  • Provide Children’s Worship Area in Sanctuary
  • Change Liturgical Cloth on Pulpit
  • Prayer Concern Baskets - place and refill
  • Communion Table - check items on table
  • Oversee/Supervise “Sanctuary Steward”
  • Oversee/Supervise “Bulletin Steward”
Resource Committee
The Resource Committee ensures that the financial and personnel requirements of the church are met, using time and talents of the congregation as well as a paid staff.  The Resource Committee maintains job descriptions and operations manual.
 Responsibilities:  
  • Budget Building Process
  • Board of Pensions Employer Representative for Employee Benefits
  • Board of Pensions Online Submittals  - e.g. Employer Agreement and Change of Salary for employees
  • Prepare Contracts for Employees
  • Prepares Terms of Call Document - have signed by Pastor and Clerk of Session and mail document to Presbytery
  • Promote Stewardship - e.g. Annual Stewardship Campaign and other educational events 
  • Oversee Bequests/Estate Gifts
  • Capital Need Funding
  • Annual Financial Reviews
  • Paid Staff Job Descriptions/Reviews/Evaluations – explained in the operations manual
  • Operations Manual – kept up to date
  • Congregation Time/Talent Resource Card – gather the interests and talents of the congregation
  • Financial Information to Congregation, etc.
  • Support of Receiving, Recording and Disbursing Treasurers
  • Insurance Needs - review of insurance policies and claims
